Dr. Chen is an NIH-funded investigator who has conducted survey research on adolescent substance use and dependence, and clinical trials to investigate the clinical effectiveness of a Chinese energy therapy for osteoarthritis and addiction. His major research interests include research methodology, epidemiology of substance abuse, and health applications of energy therapy and mind-body integrative medicine. He is among the few U.S. scientists with knowledge of Qigong and actively involved in researching this ancient energy healing system. His work includes verification of Qi energy through laboratory devices, and medical application of Qigong therapy in clinical settings. He currently works on NIH- and foundation-funded research projects and the application of bio-energy therapy and self-help methods for addiction, arthritis, cancer and other health conditions.
